COMMUNITY GARDEN LUST:  I had the great good fortune to chat very informally with an ideological idol this weekend for a few minutes: Alice Waters.  Her life’s story, her life’s work, her luscious texts, her Edible Schoolyard initiative… It is all in the service of the Earth.  Whether you know it or not, when you are interested in art and design and healing and feng shui you just HAVE TO be interested in the Earth. All of these aesthetic inquiries lead us back to our senses, to energy, to creativity,  to emotion, to truth- and that is the sum total of what earth energy is, 100%.
I live in an amazing place with no balcony and no usable gardening space. For those of you in my predicament, community gardens may be the answer. These gardens are a chance to fuse with a larger part of your neighborhood, grow your own food, and cultivate a healthy respect for the origins of what is on your plate. Growing food is one ultimate lesson in gratitude. It can thoroughly change your life and your Tao.
Check out this post on Heavy Petal if you want to start planting; its not too late to get started on certain cold-loving crops!
